Early Years Experiential Reading Program

"We do not promote reading to our children because it is good for them or because it is required for school success. We advocate reading because it is enjoyable and enriching."

Reading is an integral part of early years curriculum. Experiential reading program is a play-based approach to reading introduced from playgroup Junior onwards. This bespoke Sakalya Reading program is aimed at inculcating the love for reading and nudging the little ones to make friends with books. Meticulous and thoughtful preparation precedes the conduct of an experiential reading program. This program encompasses reading, retelling, pretend play, word acting, story board creation, vocabulary building and many more meaningful activities – sensory, cognitive, creative etc . During these sessions children get elevated to the magical world of reading naturally.

  • Outdoor activity focusing on Physical Development
Outdoor play can help your child to develop basic motor functions, explore their creativity and become confident with physical activity in the outside world. Being out in the fresh air nurtures children’s mental and physical health, as well as promoting concentration and improving the quality of their experience. This is why we invest in outdoor environment in our setting, including regular outdoor play and learning as part of our timetable of activities.
  • Interaction with nature focusing on Eco Consciousness
We are in sync with nature with all greenery surrounding us and we have beautiful outdoor green space. It can be an exciting novelty for them to go out and explore our outside spaces, often feeling freer than they do indoors. Studies have shown that children who engage with nature will have a greater sense of environmental awareness as they get older. This is why we ensure children have the opportunity for gardening, experiencing growth and decay in real form, studying the seeds we sow and being able to eat the foods we grow.
  • Cognitive activities for brain development
We expose the children to well researched activities which are aimed at cognitive development during the early year where the children’s brain is building. The basic architecture of the brain is constructed through an ongoing process that begins before birth and continues into adulthood. Simpler neural connections and skills form first, followed by more complex circuits and skills. In the first few years of life, more than 1 million new neural connections form every second. Initiative, curiosity, engagement/ persistence, creativity, cooperation and collaboration, memory, problem solving, organizational skills are the executive functional area in focus.
  • Social Emotional Learning
These activities will introduce your child to the limitless potential that lies ahead, shaping their characters and getting them excited about making their mark in the world. The sessions also nurture good mental wellbeing. Self Awareness, Self Management , Social Awareness , Relationship Skills Responsible Decision Making – Making Choices are the focus areas.
  • Literacy Activity
Communication, use of Language, print awareness being the indicators , phonics and reading are our primary focus areas to start with. Reading to preschoolers contributes to the development of their growing brains and gives them a good start towards a lifelong love of reading and good literature. This also helps language development as they are taking in information and beginning to learn about speech patterns. In addition, synapses connect between your infant's neurons as you read aloud, positively affecting child development in many areas. We do complete all the selected books for a particular grade during the academic year. Writing is introduced to the child from Pre K onwards.
  • Numeracy
Oral mathematical skill is introduced to the child from playgroup onwards. Counting and Identification, identification and naming of Shapes. Math Concepts. Sorting and Grouping are the focus area during early years. Children are taught these concepts through multiple intelligences approach.
  • World Around Me
Pre-schoolers learn about myself, family and friends, animal kingdom, plant kingdom, community helpers, transport states and personalities through active learning and theme based learning approach
  • Project Based Learning and Scientific and conceptual Understanding
Every learning activity is integrated into a project where children are given autonomy in research and investigation. Project Based Learning (PBL) pedagogy is a huge part of our preschool curriculum. Research says that experiential learning is the effective methodology during preschool years. Our endeavour is not only helping our children academically ready for the formal schooling but also cognitively equip them to absorb the information around them in a holistic manner.
  • Mindfulness
Mindfulness sessions are integrated into the daily routine of children. Various body postures and breathing exercises which helps in mind body integration is introduced to them in soothing musical way.
